Several members of the LDBA improvised a day trip to the Beqaa on Saturday the 3rd of May.

The day started early, at 7:30 am! (as if the million year old Beqaa was going somewhere that afternoon...) The  majority of participants were picked up by a bus in front of the embassy in Achrafieh and hit the road at 8 a.m.

The 1st stop in the Bekaa was at the Skaff farm where Camil and Dina Skaff received the group, and conducted a factory tour where everyone was impressed by the cleanliness and modern machines.

The tour was followed by an even more impressive event which was an amazing typical Lebanese breakfast in the Skaff's beautifully furnished cottage. A chef was hired by the Skaffs for this special occasion to prepare delicious Saj manakiche etc.

Before leaving for the next event, the group was taken to the nice gazebo outside the cottage to have coffee.

Everyone was nicely surprised by the personal touch that Tarek Ouerghi had suggested: 3 nice birthday cakes were brought to celebrate Claire Chalhoub and Mrs. Abou Aour's birthdays, which happened to be on that day.

A quick walk through the rest of the farm followed before boarding the bus again.

The next stop included a guided tour of the Hima Kfar-Zabad reserve, a Wetland with high biodiversity, fresh water marshlands, endangered fauna that lives in this type of ecosystems (crabs, turtle, fish, frogs, birds…), and flora (Iris, orchids, reeds, …) The tour was conducted by the well informed and very accomodating former Mayor. The members were all impressed by the serenity of the place and the numerous endangered species present in the reserve.

The last stop, which included a specially prepared lunch and video showing, was at Terbol. A typical Lebanese mud-house was visited and the rest of the museum was shown by the very helpful custodian. All in all, a very relaxing day was enjoyed and appreciated by all the participants!
